Kenkel, Blake power Wolves past Westwood Sloan
Stephen Kenkel blasted two home runs, including a grand slam, and Rick Blake added another long shot, as IKM-Manning claimed a 17-7 victory over Westwood Sloan in action during the Western Valley Conference baseball tournament on Tuesday night.
The win was the ninth in a row for IKM-Manning, which concluded its regular season with a fine 20-5 overall record.
IKM-Manning trailed 7-3 before scoring four times in the top of the fifth to tie it at 7-7. The Wolves then broke the game open in the sixth plating eight runs for a 15-7 lead.
Cory McCarville’s squad added a pair of runs in the seventh for good measure.
IKM-Manning collected 14 hits on the night.
Kenkel went 3-for-5 with five runs batted in and three runs scored. He hit a solo homer in the first and a grand slam in the sixth.
Tyler Muhlbauer went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs.
Blake was 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs. Josh Ertz finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Sam Irlmeier also went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and one run.
Blake’s home run broke a 7-7 tie in the sixth.
Jarad Gaskill was 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run, while Matt Vogel wound up 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run for the Wolves.
Ertz started on the mound for IKM-Manning, allowing five hits with four strikeouts in four and one-third innings of work.
Tyler Bruck threw two and two-thirds for the win. He yielded two hits with three Ks.
“Offensively, we played really well. Eight starters scored runs,” said McCarville.
